Manufacture to Market – how we develop our fire doors

Fire safety is at the core of our business, and with Fire Door Safety Week approaching we feel it’s important to share our new product development process with you.

Manufacturing

The needs and wants of our customers are the starting point for all of our new products., we are asked if a non-fire rated door design can be offered as a fire-rated door. This brings together our Commercial, Research & Development and Marketing teams, who then set out the plan to bring the new product to market.

At Deanta we have our own manufacturing facility, which means we have full control over our product quality and supply chain. To begin the process, we identify the key performance components that need to be added to the existing design. We add our FD30 core, which is audited and controlled according to 2 third-party certification schemes; Q-Mark and CERTIFIRE. Our non-fire rated core differs from our fire rated core due to the increased density and the overall thickness of the material. Our feature doors, both fire and non-fire rated are finished with 18mm hardwood lippings. These are applied to each edge of the door, allowing customers to trim and alter to their specific needs. To ensure best practice we provide our customers with supporting documentation to advise on installation and processing adjustments.

Fire Testing

A full programme of fire testing, carried out at third party laboratories not only provides evidence for our certification but also peace of mind for our customers. As a Prime Door Manufacturer, we have invested heavily in fire testing and the third-party certification schemes that we hold. At Deanta, we fire test all of our doors to the European standard which is widely regarded as the most difficult. We believe this gives our customers even more confidence in the performance of our fire-rated products. All of Deanta’s feature fire doors are BM TRADA Q-Mark accredited and our Type 5 construction is also covered under the CERTIFIRE scheme. We proactively test our fire doors in some of the country’s leading testing facilities and typically carry out full scale fire testing once a month. The full testing to certification process can take 12-18 months to complete and implement into our range. It is truly worth the wait for a door which not only meets fire safety standards, but exceeds them.

Final Stages

After successful fire testing has taken place and the new product design has been added to the relevant certification schemes, we then label the doors accordingly. The 2 third-party certification schemes we adhere to require us to add labels / plugs to ensure full product traceability. These labels also give you the confidence that our product is covered and monitored as part of the scheme. Examples of the 2 labelling requirements can been seen below:

At Deanta we have a fantastic array of design and finishes, and nearly every non-fired rated design is available as an FD30 fire door option. You don’t need to compromise style for safety.
